This blog is dedicated to a little girl, named Hope Dollarhide. Hope is a vibrant, beautiful third grader, living in Blackwell, OK, my hometown. My mom had Hope in kindergarten and I have had the privelage of knowing Hope's family from the time I was younger. Earlier this year, Hope was diagnosed with a very rare stomach cancer. Since that time she has undergone several treatments and has shown amazing courage as she has had to take on a challenge that no child should face. Last weekend, at an OU home football game, Hope and three other little boys with cancer had the opportunity to meet Bob Stoops, the head OU football coach. In addition to spending time with Coach Stoops before the game, the kids got a chance to meet up with the OU players, and watch the football game front and center at Owen Field. Or, should I say that Bob Stoops and the players got the opportunity to meet these four unbelievable children. Bob Stoops has always been a class act coach , father, and person. He has a heart for helping children and for using his status as a powerfull NCAA coach to serve and help others. My respect for him has grown increasingly after learning how he loved on Hope and the other kids as if they were his own children. He picked them up in a limo, let them try on his championship rings, and seemed to have a particular soft spot in his heart for Hope. I am certain that those four special, beautiful kids had the afternoon of a lifetime. After hanging out with Heisman Trophy hopeful, Adrian Peterson in the locker room, the smiles on the kid's faces is priceless! We can't always understand why certain things in this life happen; in particular why children suffer. But I am certain that God takes hardships, and little angels like Hope, and through them, shines a light. When I see the way that Bob Stoops and the others involved in last Saturday's events come together and give of their time and love, it gives me hope that we can make it through anything....together. The prayers and support for little Hope Dollarhide are endless. Let us never forget how fragile life is...and what a gift children are. They help us remember that life is at its best, something to be lived to the fullest. (Could not get the pictures to enlarge; Hope is the cutie with the cheerleading uniform on-the only girl!)
