Food, Family And The Day of The Dogs

This year for Thanksgiving we drove to my hometown of Blackwell, Oklahoma. It's about a 10 hour drive from Breck and really not all that bad. We got to relax for a couple days before the big feast. I spent time helping mom cook and get things ready for the company. My mom's two brothers and their families were going to be joining us so we were all very excited. I have to say that this year's Thanksgiving dinner tasted so wonderful and almost the best we had ever had! That could be of course because I was looking forward to it so much though as well. It was very healing to be around family and friends after the tough last month or so that JT and I have had.

This year was a Thanksgiving to remember not so much of the "family" time, but because of all the laughter that arose from the number of dogs we had in the house. The dogs practically outnumbered people! They are as follows: Our dogs, Sophia and Shiloh; Uncle Rod and Aunt Linda's dog Buddy; Uncle Rick and Aunt C's dog Sasha; Mom's dog Baxter; and Chris' dog Wyatt. It's a wonder that the turkey didn't end up being eaten by those characters. It was a full house and wouldn't have been the same without our canine friends. After a fabulous and filling dinner, we all just sat around chatted and caught up on old times. My Uncle Rod and Aunt Linda just moved from their incredible lake home in eastern Oklahoma to Tulsa. Uncle Rick and Aunt Carolyn are still enjoying life up in K.C., while Court is in her sophomore year at K-State and Chris owns his own service business in K.C. There's never a dull moment with this group and this will certainly be a Thanksgiving to remember. We didn't get to hunt this year with Uncle rod because the season was too late, but nevertheless we loved every minute of it all!
