The Redneck's Guide to Snow Boarding

Tis the time of year for snow. And lot's of it. After getting 12-14 inches yesterday and last night, JT and I quickly realized early this morning that neither one of us would be going to work. We couldn't get out of our driveway for one and second, our county roads weren't plowed all day. But the worst of the storm is not supposed to hit until tonight when we could get an additional 16 inches of powder. After sitting around most of the day bored we decided to go out and play in the snow. If you can't get to the mountain to ski or board, you bring the mountain to you. Now I don't think JT and I are rednecks, but snowboarding the way we did today makes me think of a "southern" way of playing in the snow. My friend Grace called today and reminded me of how we all actually used to play in the snow back in Oklahoma as kids. Our dads would take rusted hoods of old cars and tie them to the backs of horses or old pickups and drag us kids around pastures. No kidding about that. Now, looking back, that doesn't so sound safe to me. At least we didn't try that stunt today. I think it was outlawed about 15 years ago in fact.

Instead, we revved up the 4-wheeler, hooked up a rope to the back and I strapped on my beloved snow board. Yes, the same one that I fell riding last April and suffered a grade 2 concussion - I hadn't been on it since. So I braved my fear of being pulled behind my crazy husband on a foot of powder on our county roads and took on the challenge. It was a blast! Quite exhausting, but oh so fun. It was like wake-boarding on snow. Cutting back an forth across the snow wake, I'm lucky I walked away with no broken bones or head injuries. We were worn out in a matter of an hour or so. After some hot chocolate and time by the fire inside, we braced ourselves with the high hopes of another fun day outside tomorrow. Hopefully I'll be able to move. Hopefully our roads will be plowed by then - hopefully. No guarantees.
